Maya Atlas . . .

The Maya Atlas is a project of the Mayan People of Southern Belize in cooperation with Toledo Maya Cultural Council - Toledo Alealdes Association and U.C. Berkeley Geography Department and GeoMap. This project came to be through an amazing series of 'coincidences' and is a result largely due to the efforts of Julian Cho, Joel Wainright, Deborah Schaaf, and Dr. Bernard Nietschmann amongst others.

The entire work group, besides including over 50 community representatives from the Maya settlements in southern Belize, included Charles Tambiah (pHd candidate), Widdicombe Schmidt, Jenny Freeman, Steve Rose, and Madison Roswell. Tim Norris participated as a consultor to the project with responsibilites including book design, partial facilitation of the community mapping effort, and some mid-level project coordination.

This project was a successful example of a community mapping effort and relied on the participation of many talented people and forward thinking organizations. Please visit The Indian Law Resource Center (Montana and D.C.), North Atlantic Books, and the UC Berkeley Maya Atlas page for more information.
